Ten hits weren't enough for Field Falcons 10U as it lost a shootout, 12-8 in six innings, to the Stark Lightning on Saturday at Volunteer Park.

Caleb Gartner boosted his batting average thanks to a perfect 3-3 day at the plate to pace Field Falcons 10U. He singled in the first, fourth, and fifth innings.

Lewis got it done on the hill on the way to a win. He allowed one run over two innings. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered two hits.

Jared Jones ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He allowed nine runs in 1 2/3 innings, walked two and struck out two.

The Stark Lightning didn't relinquish the lead after scoring four runs in the first inning when they scored on an RBI double by Dobbins, an error, and an RBI single by Wells.

The Stark Lightning increased their lead with five runs in the second. A error scored Shusta to start the scoring in the inning. That was followed up by Willis' single, scoring Bowman, Kieuman and Dobbins.

Field Falcons 10U scored one run in the bottom of the second to cut its deficit to eight. A groundout by Carter Little triggered Field Falcons 10U's comeback. The Field Falcons 10U threat came to an end when Lewis finally got Timmy Farnsworth to strike out.

The Stark Lightning tacked on another two runs in the fourth. A ground out scored Lewis for the inning's first run.

Five runs in the bottom of the fifth helped Field Falcons 10U close its deficit to 12-8. An error, an RBI single by Conner Lindsey, an RBI single by Mason Long, an error, and sparked Field Falcons 10U's rally. Finally, Wells induced an inning-ending strike out from Carter.
